Before Betting on Rockies vs Padres Aug 1

It looks like the San Diego Padres are in a great spot with five games against the Colorado Rockies coming up over the next four days. The Rockies are once again one of the worst road teams in baseball at 16-30 and have also gone 3-7 since the All-Star break.

What the Rockies are however is a nuisance, going 8-3 against the Padres this season and 22-21 against the NL West as a whole. Colorado did just drop three of four to the Dodgers however, which gives San Diego hope they can stack some wins and either chip away at the 12 game lead L.A. has in the division or build padding on San Diego’s top wild card spot.

Antonio Senzatela (3-5, 4.90 ERA) is up in the rotation for Colorado and surprisingly his splits at Coors Field (3-2, 4.02) are better than on the road (0-3, 6.57). Senzatela has allowed at least three ER in five of his last six starts but gave up just 1 ER over 6.0 IP in his lone outing against the Padres this season – and that was at Coors Field.

Mike Clevinger (2-3, 3.38 ERA) makes his 11th start of the season in the Rockies vs Padres Aug 1 matchup. Clevinger is trying to build on a solid start to the second half when he went 7.0 IP allowing 2 ER in a 6-4 win at Detroit. The Padres have dropped three of Clevinger’s last four starts.

The offshore odds have San Diego as hefty favorites across the board, but they’ve had their share of struggles against Colorado this season. Clevinger gave up 4 ER over 5.1 IP against the Rockies on July 12th and one would have to think the value in this one is on the Padres as well as the ‘over.’
