It’s incredibly early, but the Atlanta Braves look like World Series contenders after their 5-1 start to the 2023 season – all on the road. Now Atlanta gets their home opener on Thursday night against a San Diego Padres team that has started 3-3 playing all of their games at Petco Park so far. Atlanta is a pretty significant favorite in this Padres vs Braves matchup.

Before Betting on Padres vs Braves

Atlanta is rolling but that’s what happens when a team is in the top 10 in MLB in runs scored (5.33) as well as team ERA (2.38). The Braves just wrapped up a three game sweep of NL Central favorite St. Louis, winning 8-4, 4-1, and 5-2 with Ronald Acuna, Jr. finishing the series 7-14 (.500). Acuna, Jr. is one of five Atlanta players hitting above .300 on this young season.

The Padres had a somewhat disappointing 3-3 home stand to kick off the 2023 season, especially considering they played the Rockies and Diamondbacks, the two worst teams in the NL West last season. The Padres have scored 5+ runs in three of their last four, so maybe their offense is coming to life.

Thursday’s pitching matchup features Blake Snell (0-1, 6.23) against Spencer Strider (1-0, 0.00 ERA), which looks like a low scoring game on paper. Snell gave up 3 ER over just 4.1 IP in his first start of the season but did strike out 9 Rockies batters. Strider was great on Saturday, going 6.0 IP while allowing just 3 hits and 0 ER in a win over the Nationals.

Padres vs Braves Prediction & Pick

San Diego had Wednesday off, but you still have to wonder how they’ll adjust to their first road game of the season especially while going all the way across the country. Throw in Atlanta being extra amped up for their home opener as well as having Strider on the mound after a dominating start on Saturday and this one looks like a comfortable Braves play.
