Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington is the main event of UFC 296, this organization’s final event of 2023. Our prediction is that it’s going to be a banger!

It’s got to be. This is a UFC Welterweight Championship fight in which “Rocky” is defending his title for the second time after taking it from Kamaru Usman. The fight also marks the return of “Chaos” after a year-and-a-half hiatus.

On top of everything, these two guys seem to hate each other. Colby’s comments about Leon’s dead father have made him Edwards’s enemy No 1. Will he use the anger to his advantage, or will Covington’s mind games hurt him? Let’s find out!

Before Betting on Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington UFC 296 Fight

Leon Edwards is 21-3-1, with his only no-contest happening in the fight with Belal Muhammad whom he poked in the eye by accident. When it comes to his losses, one happened by disqualification for an illegal knee, one happened by a split decision (on his UFC debut), while his most recent loss was a unanimous decision loss.

The defeat in question happened in 2015 when Kamaru Usman beat him. Since then, “Rocky” is undefeated. Not only that, but he’s gotten his revenge for that loss. He beat Usman with a spectacular KO in 2022, taking away the UFC Welterweight title from him.

Usman wanted to get it back, but Edwards beat him again. It happened back in March in his only fight of 2023 so far. Fast-forward to the UFC’s final event of the year and Edwards is fighting again. This time, he’s taking on Colby Covington who’s 17-3 overall, with two of his three losses happening to Usman.

On paper, Edwards is the favorite, but there’s one thing that’s going in Covington’s favor. The crowd at T-Mobile Arena will be on his side and among them is going to be former US President Donald Trump who’s loved in MMA circles.

Colby Covington has made it personal at UFC 296 media day by offending Leon Edwards’s late dad. “Rocky” will not forgive him for this, and the best way to punish the loudmouth is to beat him in front of his own crowd.
