The CONCACAF Gold Cup has reached the quarterfinal stage, which means only the most talented eight teams are left standing. Among those are the United States, who have previously won the Gold Cup on six occasions. Their opponents at the quarterfinal stage will be Jamaica.

USA vs Jamaica Preview

USA Top Group B

The United States seamlessly made it through the group stage without much of an issue. USA finished the group with a maximum of nine points, which sealed top place in the group. They achieved 1-0 wins against Haiti and Canada, and hammered Martinique in the middle group game. That heavy victory was an outstanding victory, with Daryl Dike scoring twice. There were also goals in the win for Miles Robinson, Gyasi Zardes and Nicholas Gioacchini.

The final group game against Canada was certainly the hardest game that the United States had through the group stages, as they met the Canadians at Children’s Mercy Park to determine the side that would finish top of Group B. United States had the perfect start in the game, as they went ahead inside the opening minute through Shaquell Moore. From that moment, they were able to sit back and wait for counter-attacking opportunities. Canada dominated the possession, but just didn’t have the creative flair in the attacking third to trouble the United States.

Jamaica Denied Top Spot

Jamaica will try and make life as difficult as possible for the United States on Sunday evening, as they have been impressive at both ends of the pitch to this point. They have scored four goals in the three games that they have played. However, a 1-0 defeat against Costa Rica on the final matchday meant that they were forced to settle for second spot in the group.

Their progression through to the next round was already assured after the opening two games, as they overcame Suriname and Guadeloupe. Jamaica were made to work hard in the latter of those games, as they went behind early on after an own goal from Amari Bell. However, they came back well. Cory Burke leveled the scores in the 14thminute, before Junior Flemings struck the winner with three minutes of the 90 remaining.

Recent Meetings

Jamaica and USA have met on 28 occasions in the past. The United States have won the majority of the fixtures, as they have recorded 17 wins. They have won the last two meetings against Jamaica, which includes the 4-1 success that they achieved in an international fixture back in March.

USA vs Jamaica Pick

The United States certainly come into this game with the momentum. Jamaica have players that could cause questions for the States, but it is unlikely that they will be able to get a win. We expect the United States to pick up a comfortable victory at the AT&T Stadium and progress through to the semi-finals.
