Learn How to read Ligue 1 Odds

Ligue 1 odds are presented as:

• American
• Decimal
• Fractional

In the following few lines, we will provide you with a detailed guide on how to read each method. 

American Odds

• American odds, often referred to as moneyline odds, are a popular way of representing the Ligue 1 odds of a bet in American sports betting.
• These odds can be positive or negative, indicating either the potential profit or the amount required to stake.
• A positive moneyline indicates the potential profit of a $100 bet.
• A negative moneyline represents the amount needed to wager to make a $100 profit.

This system allows bettors to quickly assess their potential winnings or losses for a given bet.

Here is an example:

• When the moneyline is negative, it shows the favorite. The higher the negative number, the more likely that outcome is to happen.
• The higher the positive moneyline is, the less likely it is for that bet to occur, but the profit is also higher.

When betting on PSG’s triumph, it indicates that we must stake $250 to win $100.

Conversely, if you bet $100 on Lyon’s win, you can earn $360.

Decimal Odds

Decimal Ligue 1 betting odds are commonly used by sportsbooks around the world. Knowing how to read and calculate profits from these odds is important, as they differ from American or fractional odds.

For instance, let’s consider the match between Marseille and Monaco:

Marseille is the favored team, indicated by their lower decimal odds. The lower the decimal odds, the bigger the favorite team, but the profits are also lower.

To calculate your net income, follow these steps:

Suppose you bet $100 on Marseille (1.75) to win.

• Step one: Calculate the gross income by multiplying the odds by the stake:

1.75 x $100 = $175

• Step two: Subtract the stake from the gross income to determine the clean profit:

$175 – $100 = $75

Here is how that looks when we bet $100 on Monaco’s success.

• First, we multiply their decimal odds with the stake:

3.55 x $100 = $355

• Then, deduct the stake from the gross income to obtain the clean profit:

$355 – $100 = $255

Fractional Odds

Presenting odds through fractions is standard in the United Kingdom and other countries influenced by the British crown. Before we start anything, we have to say a few words about the fraction itself.

It consists of two elements: the numerator and the denominator. In the fraction 1/2, the numerator is the first number (1), and the denominator is the second number (2).

Here is an example: 

Lille is the favorite here. Why?

• Because the numerator is smaller than the denominator, their ratio is below 1, which tells us the hosts are favorites.
• On the other side, the draw and Rennes’ victory have the numerator higher than the denominator, with their fraction giving the result bigger than 1.

Here is how to calculate the profits here. There is just one formula you need to know, and it’s not tough at all:

(stake x numerator) / denominator = profit

All you need to do is multiply the numerator by the stake and then split the whole sum by the denominator.

• Step one: Multiply the numerator by the stakes.
• Step two: Divide that sum by the denominator.

We will show how the formula works in that example.

We will take $100 as the stake. In this case, we will pick Lille (3/4) to win.

($100×3)/4=$300/4=$75, which would be our profit.

If we pick Rennes’ victory:

($100×5)/4=$500/4=$125

There is no need for any further steps. The result shows us a clear profit, so there is no need for deductions.

After reading the previous part of the article, we are sure you know how to read Ligue 1 odds, but that’s not all we want to show you. Money is at the center of everything, so if you like to earn while watching the top flight of French football, stay tuned for a couple of Ligue 1 betting tips.

You must be aware of a few specifics because they only appear in this league.

• African Cup of Nations Effect: French teams have the most players coming from African countries, and their squads have numerous national team members. So when the AFCON starts, which is usually early on in the calendar year, with the national leagues in action, a huge number of players leave French clubs. Some of the key stars in various teams are unavailable, which reflects their performances. So do know this when betting on French Ligue 1.
• Weather: France is a big country, and as such, it has certain specifics regarding weather. The teams located near the Atlantic Ocean higher up north often play in the rain, which can be tricky for players. Meanwhile, those who are out in the south encounter extreme heat. 
• Distance: As stated, France is big. For instance, there are more than 1120 kilometers between Marseille and Brest. When some team from Corsica plays, that’s even longer, particularly when there are mid-week rounds or some international obligations. All this can have a significant impact.
