There is no greater honor in global soccer than winning the World Cup, and remarkably, none of the last three Golden Boot winners have represented the winning nation. In fact, no outright Golden Boot victor has also been on the winning team since Ronaldo for Brazil in 2002.
We have already made our case for Portugal to win the World Cup this year, as we believe that their stacked roster full of proven winners has the mentality to land a first-ever honor on the global stage.
However, selecting a top scorer can be challenging. Bettors must consider the players who will take set-pieces, while also ensuring that they select a forward who will go deep into the tournament.
Kylian Mbappe is a player I’d be happy to overlook, as France have a challenging group stage campaign, while Harry Kane may be rested for certain games if England’s progression in the opening round is assured.
Therefore, at a massive price, Romelu Lukaku could be interesting. Belgium have a straightforward route through the opening round, and the striker could net plenty of goals in Group G encounters against Egypt, Iran, and New Zealand. Lukaku’s record at international level is also very impressive, scoring 90 in 125, and five in as many appearances since the start of 2025.
