Veteran Nick Martinez has a 2.43 ERA and a 2.5 bWAR so far this season. While he was reasonably effective for much of 2025 with the Reds, he had a 2.2 bWAR for the season and accrued a 4.45 ERA. The righty has become one of the most resilient and trustworthy journeymen in MLB.
In 77.2 innings, he's surrendered 77 hits and 21 earned runs, walking 13 and striking out 44. He's allowed 6 homers.
Junior Caminero has an .858 OPS and 15 homers. Yandy Diaz is at .915 with 12 homers. Jonathan Aranda has 11 homers with an .824 OPS. Ryan Vilade has 3 homers and an .803 OPS. Cedric Mullis is batting .201 with 6 homers and 12 stolen bases in 18 attempts.
For the Rays against Eric Lauer, Diaz is 2 for 10 with a double and a home run. Mullins is 1 for 3 with a home run. Austin Slater is 6 for 14 with a home run. Vilade is 1 for 2 with a homer. Caminero is 1 for 4 with a double. Chandler Simpson is 3 for 7 with 3 singles.
Eric Lauer has been a solid pitcher in the past, but was dispatched by the Blue Jays after a terrible start to 2026. He's made 3 starts since joining the Dodgers and has a 2.76 ERA. In 16.1 innings, he's allowed 12 hits and 5 earned runs, walking 2 and striking out 10. It should be noted that he's given up 4 homers with LA.
Max Muncy, Andy Pages, and Shohei Ohtani are vying for the team home run lead. Ohtani, who had a slow start at the plate, now has a .975 OPS and a .302 average. Freddie Freeman is at .836 with 11 homers.
Mookie Betts is having an awful season, batting .204 with 7 homers, a .641 OPS, and shaky defense at shortstop. Kyle Tucker is batting .235 with 5 homers.
Against Martinez, Betts is 7 for 30 with a double and a home run. Freeman is 3 for 14 with a double and a home run. Muncy is 2 for 5 with a home run and 4 walks. Ohtani is 1 for 10 with a single. Tucker is 1 for 3 with a double.
The Dodgers have had success against Martinez, but the Rays have also had success against Lauer. Tampa might only spend a fraction of the money the Dodgers do, but they are also in 1st place in their division.
Lauer is vulnerable to the home run ball and the Rays hit a lot of home runs. While he has been good, this is a clear concern. Tampa will take this one over LA to get their road series off on the right foot.
