Wings look to regroup after a one-point loss to Portland

Dallas got off to a hot start, winning seven of its first 10 games. However, the team has dropped two of its last three. The latest setback was an 84-83 loss to the expansion Portland Fire on Saturday.

The Wings seemed poised to get a hard-fought road win, going up 83-81 with 19 seconds left. But Carla Leite answered with a game-tying layup before Emily Engstler hit the second of two free throws to seal the win for the home team.

Arike Ogunbowale was one of four players in double figures. She led the way with 22 points and six rebounds. Azzi Fudd added 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

If the Wings hope to upset the defending champs again, they will need to be more efficient on offense. They shot 39 percent overall and just 25 percent from 3-point range.

Las Vegas continues to stack wins behind a double-double effort from Wilson

Following a mediocre 4-3 start, the Aces have ripped off six straight wins. This impressive stretch includes a 100-97 victory against the Minnesota Lynx on Saturday.

Las Vegas pulled ahead 96-94 late in the fourth quarter before Olivia Miles knocked down her third made 3-pointer of the game for a 97-96 advantage. However, A'ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray each made two free throws in the final 20 seconds to help the defending champs come away with the win.

Wilson led a balanced attack that included four double-digit scorers. She finished with a team-high 24 points, along with 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Gray's final stat line included 23 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. She also shot 6-for-10 from beyond the arc.

Coming off a performance in which they allowed their opponent to shoot efficiently — 49 percent from the field and 43 percent from three — the Aces will need a sharper defensive effort to knock off a Dallas squad that beat them nearly three weeks ago.

Wings vs Aces WNBA Pick

Riding a six-game win streak, Las Vegas enters this battle as a 2.5-point favorite. Here's a look at what you need to know for both teams ahead of this contest.

  • The Wings are 3-2 (SU) in their previous five games.
  • Dallas is 4-1 ATS in its last five outings.
  • The Aces are 6-0 (SU) in their previous six contests.
  • Las Vegas is 4-1 ATS in its last five matchups.

The Wings have dropped four of the five previous meetings in this series. Meanwhile, Las Vegas has flourished on the road, winning four of its last five away from home. Based on those trends, the Aces appear to have the upper hand in this Western Conference tilt.
