Elder is Likely to Be an All-Star for the 2nd Time

After two injury-plagued and poor seasons, Bryce Elder is back to the same form (or better) as his first two seasons in MLB in 2022-23.

The righty has pitched well in his last two starts, tossing 12.2 innings and allowing 5 earned runs against the Blue Jays and Pirates. For the season, he has a 1.8 bWAR and a 2.66 ERA. In 84.2 innings, he's allowed 64 hits and 25 earned runs, walking 25 and striking out 71. He's significantly cut down on the number of home runs he surrenders when compared to 2025.

At the plate against Mets starter Freddy Peralta, Eli White is 1 for 2 with a home run. White had a huge day on Saturday, going 3 for 4 with a double and a home run.

Austin Riley's batting average is hovering around .210 for the season, but he's 7 for 16 with a double and 2 homers against Peralta. Matt Olson is 3 for 11 with a double and a home run. Ozzie Albies is 1 for 16 with a double.

Peralta Needs a Rebound Start

Against the Cardinals in his last start, Peralta allowed 6 earned runs in 5 innings and took the loss. There is persistent talk that the pending free agent righty wants upwards of $220 million this winter.

Good luck with that.

For the season, he has a 0.8 bWAR and a 4.04 ERA. The Mets don't know what they'll get from him from one start to the next. In 78 innings, he's allowed 71 hits and 35 earned runs, walked 32 and struck out 79. He's given up 10 homers. This is not what the Mets thought they were getting when they traded for him over the winter.

For the Mets against Elder, Juan Soto is 3 for 7 with a home run. Eric Wagaman is 2 for 3 with 2 singles. Bo Bichette is 1 for 3 with a single. Mark Vientos is 1 for 3 with a home run.

Soto has a .937 OPS and 15 homers. Bichette has been hitting well lately and his OPS is up to .644 with 8 homers. Marcus Semien has also been somewhat hot of late with 8 homers.

Braves vs Mets Pick

The Braves are off in the distance for 1st place in the NL East, but the Mets are still well within striking distance of a playoff spot despite their poor play. But they need to start winning series.

Beating Atlanta 2 of 3 would be a positive step. However, what can they expect from Peralta? He's been inconsistent at best. Elder has been very good this season. Atlanta will put up runs against Peralta and Elder will hold the Mets' struggling lineup down to take the series.
