Cam Schlittler is 7-3 with a 1.87 ERA and a 2.16 FIP. Both numbers confirm the same thing: he has been one of the best starters in the American League this season. He allowed one run in six innings against the Royals on May 26 and has not had consecutive bad starts all year. His last three starts show a 3.40 FIP — slightly warmer than his season average — but that is a normal variance range for a pitcher with this profile. The underlying strikeout rate and contact management have not changed.
The Yankees are 37-26 and carry a .764 OPS into Toronto, 66 points better than the Blue Jays' .698. Ben Rice and Jasson Dominguez give New York two reliable run producers in the lineup, and their bullpen FIP of 3.63 is the stronger unit in this game.
Kevin Gausman is 5-4 with a 3.60 ERA and a 3.20 FIP. He opened 2026 by striking out 11 Athletics batters on Opening Day and carried a 0.75 ERA into April. That early form has faded. His FIP over his last three starts is 4.28, and the contact quality against him has ticked up in recent weeks. Gausman still has the stuff to dominate on a given night, but he has not been the same pitcher since May.
Toronto is 4-6 over its last ten games and sitting below .500 at 30-36. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer give the Blue Jays their best run-producing options, and Rogers Centre has been a reliable home advantage this year. The Jays can win this game, but they need Gausman to pitch like the April version of himself, not the June one.
Schlittler's season FIP is nearly a full run better than Gausman's recent stretch. New York has the lineup edge and the bullpen edge.
