The Tempo appeared to be heading toward certain defeat, trailing by 13 points entering the fourth quarter. However, a furious rally pulled them ahead by a point in the game's waning moments. Unfortunately, Washington's Sonia Citron nailed a fadeaway jumper as time expired, enabling the home team to hold on for the win.
Despite shooting 48 percent from the field, only two players reached double figures for Toronto. Marina Mabrey led the way with 27 points, going 9-for-15 overall and 5-for-10 from deep. Brittney Sykes scored 20 points and handed out three assists, but the Tempo struggled to generate consistent support behind their backcourt duo.
Atlanta is in soul-searching mode after suffering a double-digit loss to New York
Following a 6-2 start, the Dream have gone 2-2 across their last four games. Their recent two-game win streak ended with a 104-90 loss to the New York Liberty on Thursday night.
Atlanta kept it close early, trailing by just two points after the opening stanza. But New York's 59-45 edge over the middle two quarters propelled the Liberty to a 16-point lead they would not relinquish.
Angel Reese led three double-digit scorers with a 25-point, nine-rebound, three- assist effort. Rhyne Howard finished with 24 points, going 5-for-13 from beyond the arc.
The Dream shot 45 percent from the field, but their defense allowed New York to convert 54 percent overall and a blistering 52 percent from beyond the arc. Atlanta now looks to tighten its defensive effort after surrendering its highest point total of the season.
Tempo vs Dream WNBA Pick
Toronto enters this battle as a 6.5-point underdog. Here's a look at what you need to know for both teams ahead of this contest.
- The Tempo are 4-2 (SU) in their previous six games.
- Toronto is 4-2 ATS in its last six outings.
- The Dream are 15-6 (SU) in their previous 21 contests.
- Atlanta is 12-5 ATS in its last 17 matchups.
True, both teams are coming off losses. However, Atlanta is a top-10 squad at both ends of the floor, while Toronto ranks near the bottom of the league in scoring defense (13th) and defensive rating (12th). Given these trends, the Dream have the slight edge here.
