The veteran Nate Eovaldi has surrendered 13 earned runs in his last 18.2 innings. His overall numbers are passable, but nowhere near as good as he's been since joining the Rangers in 2023. This season, he has an 0.4 bWAR and a 4.26 ERA. In 80.1 innings, he's allowed 75 hits and 38 earned runs, walking 20 and striking out 77.
Texas has been underwhelming offensively. Jake Burger leads the team with 12 homers. He has a .747 OPS. Corey Seager is batting .186 with 9 homers. Josh Jung is living up to the hype with an .828 OPS and 8 homers.
Joc Pederson is having a solid comeback season after a 2025 disaster with 8 homers and a .786 OPS. Brandon Nimmo has slowed down after a blazing start, now batting .254 with 7 homers.
The only Rangers batter who's faced Connelly Early is Elias Diaz. He's 1 for 3 with a home run.
The Red Sox have been generally bad this season. A sweep over the Rangers would undoubtedly be a step in the right direction.
Connelly Early takes the mound. The rookie lefty is one of MLB's top young lefty prospects and has been solid this season with a 1.2 bWAR and a 3.30 ERA in 13 starts. Over 71 frames, he's allowed 70 hits and 26 earned runs, walking 27 and striking out 69.
Willson Contreras has been the BoSox most consistent hitter this season with a .932 OPS and 14 homers. Jarren Duran was showing signs of life, but has fallen back again with a .657 OPS. Wilyer Abreu has a .775 OPS. Ceddanne Rafaela is at .803 with 7 homers. Caleb Durbin's average is creeping up toward .200. They're still without Trevor Story and Roman Anthony.
Against Eovaldi, Abreu is 3 for 7 with 2 homers. Duran is 2 for 9 with a double and a homer. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is 4 for 14 with a double. Connor Wong is 4 for 9 with 2 doubles.
Boston's season has been one of fits and starts. They've never managed to get any consistency. They can complete the sweep and get some good vibes going as they move forward.
Early is a young pitcher who has been good all season. Boston has handled Eovaldi well in the past and the Rangers are still not hitting. The Red Sox will take this game and complete the sweep.
