There will be a clash between two Championship sides in the fourth round of the FA Cup this weekend as Watford welcomes Southampton to Vicarage Road. Both sides will be confident of reaching the next round of the competition, with the Saints bringing excellent form into the weekend.

There could be a real chance for a Championship side to go deep in the FA Cup this term, as there are a lot of all-Premier League showdowns in the fourth round this weekend. Watford will be among the leading contenders looking to upset the odds, but they have a really poor recent record against Southampton in the FA Cup after losing four of their last five. Only three teams have eliminated the Hornets more regularly than Southampton.
The Saints also come into this cup showdown in excellent away form against Watford after going nine without loss against the Hornets at Vicarage Road. Over that period, they have landed four wins, with five ending in draws. Watford’s last home win against the Saints was recorded in September 2007 when both sides were in the Championship.
Watford enjoyed a memorable run to the final in 2018-19, but their 3-2 win over Wolves in the semi-final that season was their most recent victory in the competition. Since then, they have only recorded a victory against Chesterfield in the previous round in seven FA Cup outings.
Southampton’s away record in the competition also deserves a lot of respect this weekend, as they have won 16 of their last 24 matches on the road in the FA Cup. They have also picked up wins in each of their last four away ties in the competition. But, they have never recorded five away wins on the bounce in the cup.
