Pep Guardiola reached the headlines today, but not because of Man City’s good results or due to his good work. The Spanish manager spoke about Bayern Munich’s interest in his services.

Bayern not an Option… For Now

The Citizens’ current manager is one of the primary targets of the German powerhouse. The five-time European champions are currently without a coach, and they would like to see Guardiola or Mauricio Pochettino as their new boss.

During the press conference before tomorrow’s clash with Chelsea, one of the reporters asked Pep to comment on the possibility of getting back to Germany. The Spaniard was pretty decisive in his response, saying that at the moment, the only team he cares about is Manchester City. Guardiola also added that he hopes that Bayern’s officials are aware of his current situation, and the fact that the contract lasts until the end of the season.

According to his words, even though City isn’t performing as they should, and the fact that Liverpool has a significant advantage in the standings, the management of the Sky-Blues strongly supports his stay at Etihad.

Guardiola was already in charge of Bayern spending three years in Munich, 2013-2016, winning seven trophies during that time. He was a three-time champion, a two-time DFB Pokal Cup winner, and UEFA Super Cup winner, as well as the champion of the FIFA Club World Cup. So pretty much, his overall legacy at Bayern is big.

It is why the Germans want to hire him again; only this time, he will have the opportunity to select the team, and build the new one. Judging by the way things develop in Munich, Bayern is going to have a radical rebuilt next offseason.

The 48-year-old has an advantage over Pochettino, precisely because he knows how the system works, and is familiar with the atmosphere inside and around the club.

Going Back Home?

Another one of his former clubs emerged as the potential landing spot for Guardiola next season. The one which shaped him as both the players and a coach – Barcelona. Blaugrana’s fans are very upset with the way Ernesto Valverde leads the team, and the majority wants to see his back,

At the moment, Barca isn’t playing well, and Leo Messi’s final seasons are passing by, with the team not being able to exploit his magic and win several more trophies, especially the Champions League’s ones. Guardiola invented and perfected Barcelona’s tica-taca football, and knows how to implement young talents from La Masia youth academy. He also knows Messi down to the bone, and the Argentinian has massive respect towards the guy who first gave him a chance when he was a kid.

While staying with Blaugrana, Pep posted among other trophies three La Liga, and two UEFA Champions League titles.

He didn’t mention Barca at the press but only spoke about Bayern.

Lately, Guardiola finds himself under massive pressure. City isn’t playing well, the results in the Champions League are not confident, and above all, it seems that the team lost the passion for winning. All that suggests that the Spanish manager and City aren’t going to arrange a new deal once this one is done.

Because of that, many other clubs, such as Barcelona and Bayern, want to catch this opportunity early on.
