Villarreal vs Manchester United Preview

The Europa League final is the penultimate game of the UEFA’s international competitions this season. The match in Gdansk, Polan, will feature the Spanish side, Villarreal, and the English powerhouse, Manchester United. Even though Spaniards seem far inferior when looking at the trophy room, it needs to be said that they have one of the best coaches in the history of this competition, Unai Emery, who has three titles in four finals. On the other side, Manchester won EL four years ago, but ever since, didn’t lift a single piece of silverware.

Emery’s Quest for No.4

The Spanish coach already won three Europa titles while leading Sevilla and had one more final after that during his spell with Arsenal. That one was lost to Chelsea, and at the time, it was considered a big failure. Fast forward two years and Emery eliminated his former club in the semis.

The Yellow Submarine had a lead at halftime in Madrid against Real this weekend but lost that match, 2-1. Though that event was of no meaning to them, as they didn’t have any chance to reach one of the top four spots and the ticket to the UCL next year. They ended seventh, clinching a spot that leads to the UEFA Conference League.

Their football is tough and conservative, with Emery looking after every little detail and not allowing anything to slip from his awareness. In the past six matches Villarreal played, on four occasions, their net was intact.

Solskajer Wants His First Trophy With United

The Norwegian didn’t win a single trophy with the Red Devils since his arrival. The way he started his adventure, it seemed that he might become a legit successor of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson. Though, along the way, adversities appeared, and Solskajer is still without any honors.

His United played the last seven matches, scoring and allowing at least one goal. During that span, just one game didn’t end with three or more goals.

This is something characteristic for this unit, which massively improved its performances after Bruno Fernandes’ landing. United became more efficient upfront, as the Portuguese took over the organizing duties.

Villarreal vs Manchester United Head to Head

The two teams had two sets of Champions League games in 2005 and 2008, both in group stages. Believe it, or not all the contests ended 0-0.

Villarreal vs Manchester United Prediction and Pick

We don’t anticipate too many goals because the stakes are high, and in such situations, both Emery and Solskjaer chose to be ultra-defensive. They aren’t willing to attack first but prefer to wait for the rival’s mistake and punish it. Therefore under 2.5 goals or both teams not to score should be the best picks for this match. It is up to you to choose between them because we aren’t making a difference as both are very realistic.

Pick: Both teams not to score

Under 2.5 goals
