The NHL regular season is up and running for the 2022-23 campaign. However, one team that endured a miserable start to the new season is the Toronto Maple Leafs, as they were beaten on the road against the Montreal Canadiens. They will be looking to bounce back on Thursday against the Washington Capitals.

Before Betting On Capitals vs Leafs

Both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals come into this fixture with something to prove, as they were both beaten on night one in the NHL. The Leafs will certainly be under the most pressure on Thursday, as they play in front of their home fans at the Scotiabank Arena for the first time this term. Sheldon Keefe will desperately be looking to get off the board for the new season, as he will be under immense pressure this term.

Toronto were beaten 4-3 on opening night against the Canadiens, as they conceded twice in each of the second and third periods. The Leafs goals in that defeat were scored by William Nylander, Michael Bunting and Denis Malgin. However, they look far from a functional team without Auston Matthews.

The Washington Capitals endured a miserable opening fixture of the new season too, as they were well beaten at home by an improved Boston Bruins. Washington found themselves 2-0 down after the opening period, and would later concede another three goals. Both of the Capitals goals in the defeat were scored in the second period, with Anthony Mantha and Conor Sheary scoring the goals.

The pressure will continue to mount on both of these teams the longer that they remain winless in the NHL. Therefore, it is vitally important that both sides claim victory on Thursday.
