Martin Has Been the Hottest Pitcher Nobody Is Talking About

Davis Martin is 6-2 with a 2.16 ERA. His FIP of 3.03 says some of that is outperformance, but his last three FIP of 1.15 is not a sequencing story. That's a pitcher who has been genuinely untouchable. He hasn't allowed more than one earned run in any of his last four starts. He works off a fastball-changeup combination that generates weak contact on the ground, and when his command holds, he's one of the tougher pitchers to barrel in the AL.

Chicago is 38-32 and 5-5 in its last ten. Their .732 OPS lineup holds a 26-point edge over Detroit's .706. The bullpen is the one flag: CWS carries a 5.11 bullpen FIP, which is the weaker backend in this game. If Martin exits early, the cushion disappears fast. The pick lives or dies with him.

Montero Is Solid but Not at Martin's Level Right Now

Keider Montero is 4-5 with a 3.67 ERA and a 3.98 FIP. The numbers are consistent: he's been what he's been all season, a reliable middle-of-the-rotation arm who doesn't miss many bats but doesn't give games away either. His last-three FIP of 3.38 shows a slight uptick in form, which is worth noting. But 3.38 against a Chicago lineup hitting .732 OPS is not the same advantage as Martin's 1.15 over the same stretch.

Detroit is 32-44 and 5-5 in its last ten. Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene anchor a lineup that can generate runs in bunches. Comerica Park has been playing as a pitcher-friendly environment this season, which helps Montero's ground-ball approach. The Tigers are home, and the market still has them as slight favorites. The pitching data says otherwise.

White Sox vs Tigers Pick

Martin's 1.15 last-three FIP on the road against a Tigers starter who's been fine but ordinary. Chicago's lineup holds the edge. Getting the White Sox at plus money when they have the clearly superior arm is the value here.

White Sox.
