Lorenzen Is a Serviceable Arm for a Rockies Rotation That Has Needed One
Michael Lorenzen is a career 4.14 ERA pitcher who has been around the league long enough to know what he is. He is Colorado's number two starter. He made the All-Star Game in 2023 and threw a no-hitter that same year. Neither of those things describes who he is in 2026 on a Rockies staff that has given up the most runs in the NL.
He can get through five innings against a mid-level offense and give the bullpen time. That is the realistic expectation. Against a lineup with Mike Trout and Nolan Schanuel, he will need to be careful early.
Colorado is 23-38 and 3-7 in their last ten. This road trip has not gone well.
Kochanowicz Is Getting This Start With Yusei Kikuchi on the IL
Jack Kochanowicz has a 4.99 ERA and a 4.50 FIP. His FIP over his last three starts has been elevated, and his recent form has not matched the start of his season. Kikuchi is out with a shoulder injury, which puts Kochanowicz into a rotation slot he would not otherwise occupy this week.
That context matters at -163. The Angels are rolling out a pitcher with a 5-range ERA at home as a heavy favorite. The question is whether the matchup against Colorado offsets the asking price.
Mike Trout leads an Angels lineup that has been more consistent at home than on the road this season. Even without Kikuchi, Anaheim is a favorable environment for the pitching staff.
Rockies vs Angels Pick
Lorenzen against Kochanowicz is not a dominant pitching matchup for either side. What makes this the Angels' game is the same thing that has made it their series: Colorado is 23-38 and running out of a three-game road trip where they have already lost two.
Kochanowicz at home against the worst road team in the NL is the play, even at -163.
