Sugano Has Been Colorado's Most Functional Starter

Tomoyuki Sugano has a 5.41 FIP and a last-3 FIP of 4.80. He has been the most reliable arm in a Colorado rotation that has been one of the worst in the NL, and he did throw a quality start against Arizona as recently as May 22. Give him that. He is also a 36-year-old right-hander with no pitch that misses bats against quality lineups, and Los Angeles has been getting to visiting pitchers with regularity at home.

The Rockies' lineup has some usable pieces. TJ Rumfield and Troy Johnston have both been productive, but scoring runs in volume on the road against a pitcher throwing as well as Rodriguez has not been something this team has been able to do.

Rodriguez Has Been Nearly Unhittable Since Joining the Rotation

Grayson Rodriguez has a 1.63 ERA and a 2.14 FIP. His FIP over his last three starts is 2.15. He came back from close to two years away from the big leagues, made his Angels debut, and has not allowed a run in multiple outings since. His last start was five innings, one run, two hits, and a 7-1 win over the Tigers. Both the ERA and the FIP are saying the same thing: he is healthy and pitching at his ceiling right now.

Mike Trout and Nolan Schanuel give Los Angeles its most dangerous bats. The Angels have won five of their last six games.

Rockies vs Angels Pick

Rodriguez's ERA and FIP are both well under 2.50. Sugano's FIP is 5.41. The pitching gap is real and has been confirmed over multiple starts, not a one-game fluke.

At -163, you're laying juice on the best pitcher in this game going against a Colorado rotation that has allowed the most runs in the NL. This is not a value play โ€” it is the right side.

Los Angeles.
