Bye Week Gave Green Bay Time to Recover
Although the Packers lost to Detroit in Week 9, they remain in a strong position to make the playoffs. Before that loss, they had won four straight.
Their Week 10 bye gave them the chance to recover from various injuries. Quarterback Jordan Love has been dealing with a strained groin and running back Josh Jacobs has an ankle injury. Both are expected to play in Chicago.
The Packers’ strength has been their rushing attack led by Jacobs and Emanuel Wilson. They are ranked 3rd in the NFL in rushing yards per game. The passing attack has been solid even after losing Love for two games and playing cautiously when Malik Willis was under center.
Defensively, they are 10th in rushing yards allowed per game and 15th in passing yards allowed per game.
Chicago Is in Disarray After Firing Its Offensive Coordinator
After an embarrassing home 19-3 home loss to New England, the Bears fired first-year offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. It seems to be a combination of desperation and poor results. Waldron was in his first year with Chicago after spending three years in Seattle. Before that, he worked for the Rams. He had a solid resume having worked for Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll, and Sean McVay.
Still, an offensive coordinator with a first-overall draft pick and a would-be superstar at quarterback in Caleb Williams is expected to have better results. Chicago is 24th in points per game, 30th in passing yards per game, and 24th in rushing yards per game.
With Williams, D’Andre Swift, D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, and Cole Kmet, they should be better than this.
It is not idle speculation that head coach Matt Eberflus will be fired at season’s end — or sooner — if his Bears don’t turn their season around. His specialty is defense, so it’s no surprise that they made a change on offense to try and save the season and reach Williams. Passing game coordinator Thomas Brown will be the interim OC.
Packers vs Bears Prediction: Chicago Has Nowhere to Go but Up
Amid the dysfunction and people fearful for their jobs, the Bears should be motivated by the criticisms being lobbed at them as an organization and boosted by the new offensive coordinator.
Our Packers vs Bears prediction is that the teams will combine to score more than 40 points.
