Event Preview
One of the world’s most illustrious races is set for the start of June, as the Monaco Grand Prix is staged. This race was first run in 1929, and it is the second leg of the Triple Crown of Motorsport. The tight layout of the track makes overtaking challenging, meaning that there is extra importance on qualifying.
Kimi Antonelli is the man of the moment in F1, with the Italian teenager extending his advantage at the top of the Drivers’ Championship following a professional win in the Canadian Grand Prix. Antonelli benefited after George Russell was forced to retire, with Lewis Hamilton taking second and Max Verstappen finishing third.
It was an encouraging weekend for Ferrari, with Charles Leclerc taking fourth. The Ferrari looked more competitive in cooler temperatures, and that could bode well for their chances in Monaco, which is a race that typically sees ranging weather conditions.
However, it was a weekend to forget for McLaren, as their decision to start on intermediate tires backfired in Canada, as they lacked pace and were forced into early pit stops. Their misery was compounded after Lando Norris failed to finish the race.
Alpine are a team quietly going under the radar this season, with Pierre Gasly scoring points in four of the opening five races, and Franco Colapinto finishing sixth in Canada to achieve his best-ever Grand Prix finish,
Monaco Grand Prix Picks
This should be a thrilling edition of the Monaco Grand Prix, and chances could be given to many drivers. However, the narrow edge is given to George Russell to bounce back from his Canadian misery, especially considering his excellent record in qualifying.
