One of the games on tap from Wednesday night’s NBA slate features the Oklahoma City Thunder hosting the Phoenix Suns. Will OKC notch another double-digit victory in our Thunder vs Suns pick?
Thunder Look To Remain Hot Against Phoenix
The Thunder dropped a 116-109 decision to the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 29. Since that setback, OKC has won its last two games, including a blowout 125-96 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led a scoring attack in which five players reached double figures. He finished with 34 points and six assists on an efficient 15-for-19 effort from the field. He also shot 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.
The Thunder received a couple of solid contributions from its second unit. Ousmane Dieng, who averages 3.8 points per outing, scored 21 points. And Isaiah Joe pumped in 18 points, converting five of his eight attempts from beyond the arc.
In a game where Milwaukee rested its star players, the Thunder set the tone right from the start, taking a 78-44 lead into the break. Although the Thunder produced only nine points in the final frame, they won the game handily by a 29-point margin.
Suns Hope To Eclipse OKC
On the other side, after routing the Golden State Warriors 130-105 on Jan. 31, the Suns have dropped their past two games, including a 121-119 overtime loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night.
Devin Booker spearheaded the offense, scoring 34 points on 9-for-18 shooting from the field and a 13-for-14 effort from the charity stripe.
Kevin Durant added 27 points, five rebounds and five assists. Bradley Beal led the second unit with 25 points and five rebounds.
Fast forwarding to the overtime period. Beal’s layup with 32 seconds left cut Portland’s lead to 116-115. Deandre Ayton knocked down a pair of free throws on the Trail Blazers’ next possession with 7.8 seconds.
Portland’s big man hit two more free throws a few seconds later, allowing the home team to escape with a two-point victory. It was the Trail Blazers’ second straight victory over the Suns in three days.
Thunder vs Suns Pick: OKC Gets The Win Over Phoenix
In addition to posting double-digit wins in their past two outings, the Thunder are 7-3 across their last 10 contests. They have the six-highest scoring average (117.2 PPG) and the league’s top defensive rating (104.7 Points Per 100 Possessions)
Meanwhile, despite their mediocre record, the Suns have gone 6-4 in their past 10 games. Unfortunately, this team doesn’t make the grade from a defensive standpoint.
The Suns are ranked 18th in scoring defense and have the fourth-worst defensive rating in the association. Given those trends, look for the Western Conference’s top team to come out on top in this one.
