Troy Melton is 2-3 with a 2.81 ERA. He threw eight innings against the Rays on June 3, allowing one run in a complete-game-caliber outing that sealed a Detroit sweep. His ERA reflects a pitcher who has been getting hitters out consistently, but his FIP of 5.41 indicates the underlying contact quality has been harder than the results show. That's a gap worth tracking. The ERA has held across enough starts to take at face value for now, but regression toward the FIP is a real possibility on any given night.
Detroit is 29-42 overall and 60% over their last ten games, which reflects a recent upturn in form. Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene anchor the lineup. The Tigers are built around contact and they get on base at a reasonable clip.

Houston is 33-39 and 50% in their last ten. Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve give the Astros genuine run-scoring threats, and Daikin Park tends to suppress offense. The home advantage matters in a game where neither starter is at the top of their game.
Teng's last-three FIP of 6.44 against a Detroit team that has won six of its last ten. Melton's ERA holds the edge over Teng's recent stretch, and the Tigers bring better current form into this game.
