Argentina enters the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the favorite, having won the last rendition of the tournament and remaining atop the world rankings for several years. The group stage should be no issue for them, but each team will be giving every ounce of effort possible, giving Argentina no margin for error. Lionel Messi will continue to lead the way for Argentina's sensational offensive attack.
Austria rose into the top-25 of the overall FIFA rankings, qualifying for a spot in the World Cup for the first time since 1998. A sleeper team to make a run in the knockout round, Austria faces their toughest matchup of the Group Stage against Argentina. Winning will surely be the main goal, but avoiding much of a hit to their goal margin may wind up equally as important. Austria will need to be perfect on defense.
It'd be a fools errand to bet against Argentina in the early-going of this tournament. The odds of an upset here aren't wide enough to offer huge financial upside, yet it remains an unlikely result. Argentina has a fairly favorable line in this matchup, making them a good pick to get an early betting win in during the group stage. Take Argentina to win this one with a final score close to 3-1.
