Woo is Coming Off a Tough Start in Detroit
For Mariners righty Bryan Woo, two of his last three starts have been rough. Two starts ago, against the Royals, he allowed 4 earned runs in 4.2 innings. In his last start, he tossed 6.1 innings and gave up 9 hits and 5 earned runs. In between, he was excellent against the Diamondbacks, allowing 2 hits and no runs in 7 innings, walking none and striking out 9.
Overall, he has a 1.0 bWAR and a 3.74 ERA. In 77 innings, he's surrendered 63 hits and 32 earned runs, walking 14 and striking out 75.
The M's have risen to 1st place in the AL West. They are without star catcher Cal Raleigh, out with an oblique strain. But he is on a rehab assignment and should return to MLB shortly. The rest of the Mariners also hit plenty of home runs, with Julio Rodriguez and Luke Raley both in double-digits in homers.
Against Kyle Bradish, Randy Arozarena is 4 for 18 with a triple and 2 homers. Raley is 4 for 9 with a home run. Rodriguez is 2 for 8 with a double. Josh Naylor is 0 for 3.
Bradish Has Been Reasonably Effective This Season
In his first full season back after Tommy John surgery, Kyle Bradish has been reasonably solid. In 13 starts, he has a 0.6 bWAR with a 3.89 ERA. Over 69.1 innings, he's allowed 69 hits and 30 earned runs, walking 36 and striking out 68. The walks are a clear problem. He's allowed 8 homers.
Still, he's been respectable this season, even with his poor start in his previous outing against the Blue Jays, allowing 9 hits and 5 earned runs in 4 innings.
Baltimore continues to struggle as a team, under .500 and far from playoff contention. Pete Alonso has an OPS nearing .770 and is finally hitting home runs consistently after a slow start. Gunnar Henderson is right behind Alonso for the team lead in homers, but his OPS is hovering around only .700. Coby Mayo is batting under .200.
Against Woo, Henderson is 1 for 3 with a home run. Adley Rutschman is 2 for 3 with a home run. Leody Taveras is 2 for 11 with a home run. Taylor Ward is 0 for 13 with 5 K's. Alonso is 0 for 3 with 2 K's. Jackson Holliday is 0 for 2 with a walk.
Mariners vs Orioles Pick
Both starting pitchers are coming off bad starts. While Baltimore has struggled and been inconsistent with its hitting all season, they have several hitters who've had success against Woo. Bradish has generally kept the Orioles in game this season.
Baltimore should take the final game of this series behind Bradish and beat the M's.
