Andre Pallante is 3.96 ERA and 4.41 FIP on the season. The right-hander gets outs through grounders, not strikeouts: a 51% groundball rate, the lowest hard-hit rate of his career at 36.3%, and a track record of keeping the ball in the yard. He's held opposing hitters to a .175 average in road starts in 2026. He beat the Mets 3-0 on March 30, scattering three hits over five innings with 10 groundball outs.
St. Louis is 35-28 and leads the NL Wild Card race. The Cardinals are riding a four-game winning streak and have been one of the bigger surprises in the NL this season. Jordan Walker leads the lineup at .303 with 16 home runs; the Cardinals score runs without needing to overpower anyone.
Christian Scott is 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA and a 3.15 FIP. The first five starts of his season were rough, but his last three have been the opposite: 16.1 innings, one earned run, 16 strikeouts, a 0.55 ERA, and two wins. He shut out the Padres for 5.2 innings on June 5. His last-three FIP of 2.48 matches the ERA — the underlying performance is real.
New York is at home, where the Mets have been solid this year. Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, and Pete Alonso give the Mets enough lineup depth to generate runs against a pitcher with Pallante's groundball approach. The advantage here is pitching, not firepower.
Scott in his best stretch of the season at home against a Cardinals road starter with a sub-.180 opponent average on the road. Pallante is real; he beat this lineup in March, but Scott's last three starts say he's a different pitcher than the one who struggled early.
