Woo Has Been Seattle's Most Consistent Arm All Season

Bryan Woo is 5-3 with a 3.44 ERA. He has been the kind of starter who does not beat himself: low walk rates, high contact management, capable of working deep into games without racking up pitch counts. The 3.44 ERA comes from a pitcher who earns it rather than one running on defense and sequencing.

His strikeout-to-walk ratio has been among the best in the American League this year, which is why Seattle has been able to win games he starts even when the offense is quiet. He has not had a blowup in weeks.

Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez anchor the Seattle lineup. The Mariners are 33-30 with a rotation built around efficiency, and Woo has been the reason the rotation works.

Valdez Has Not Replicated His Houston Success in Detroit

Framber Valdez is 2-4 with a 4.39 ERA since joining the Tigers. In Houston, he was one of the more reliable workhorses in the AL, built around ground balls and a curveball that was nearly impossible to elevate. That profile has not translated with the same results in Detroit. The 4.39 ERA says he has been hittable in ways that did not show up in prior years.

He can still put together a quality start on any given night, and a 4.39 ERA is not a death sentence. The Tigers are 25-38 overall, but they score enough at home to keep games competitive when their starters hold up.

Mariners vs Tigers Pick

Woo versus Valdez favors Seattle. The record gap between these teams is 13 games. Detroit is one of the AL's worst teams and Woo has not had a bad start in over a month.
