Messick Is Pitching Like One of the Best Starters in the American League
Parker Messick is 6-1 with a 2.21 ERA. He came into 2026 with a seven-start preview under his belt from 2025 that showed real promise, and he has turned it into one of the better full seasons any young pitcher has put together in the AL this year. The command has been the story: he does not walk hitters, does not give away counts, and forces contact in spots where his defense can handle it.
His last outing against Tampa Bay went seven shutout innings. That is not a pitcher who gets lucky for two months; that is a pitcher who knows what he is doing on the mound. Cleveland is 36-28 in part because Messick has given them quality starts to build from.
Jose Ramirez leads a Guardians lineup that has been consistent through June. He gives Cleveland legitimate run production behind a starter who rarely needs more than three or four runs to win.
Rocker Has Had Too Many Nights Where He Cannot Get Through the Lineup
Kumar Rocker is 2-5 with a 3.54 ERA. The record tells the story: this is a pitcher who gives up leads, takes losses in games his team needs him to hold, and has been inconsistent at finding the strike zone against left-handed hitters. He got knocked around for five runs in two innings against Detroit a few weeks ago. His best starts have been quality; his worst have come at the worst times.
The Rangers lineup has enough to score runs and keep the game close if Rocker can get through five innings. Wyatt Langford has been one of the more dangerous bats on this roster when healthy, and Texas is not a dead team at 30-32.
Guardians vs Rangers Pick
Messick is 6-1, 2.21 ERA. His last start was seven shutout innings. Rocker has five losses and gave up five runs before recording six outs in his most recent bad outing.
CLE is the better team, on the road, with the best pitcher on Friday's board. Cleveland.
