Inconsistent Timbers Aiming to Bounce Back
Phil Neville’s Portland have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the Western Conference so far this season, as they have been unable to record back-to-back wins in 2026.
They will likely be frustrated that they haven’t been able to build on a recent 6-0 win over Sporting KC, having played out a draw with Montreal and losing at Inter Miami in their last two. A glimmer of hope can be taken from their home record, as the Timbers have lost just once in five at Providence Park, compared to six defeats in eight on the road.

Pressure on Earthquakes to Respond
Bruce Arena’s San Jose Earthquakes have dropped to second in the Western Conference following a poor run of results. There will be pressure on the team to respond this weekend after failing to win in their last four, which includes defeats in their previous two.
Defensive issues have been apparent in their previous two outings, as they have allowed six goals in losses against the Seattle Sounders and FC Dallas. However, San Jose have been largely reliable on the road this season, winning five of their seven fixtures, and scoring 2.14 goals per game.

Portland vs. San Jose Picks
The Earthquakes have won just three of their last 29 away matches against the Timbers. Therefore, there could be value in the betting to side with the hosts extending their excellent record at Providence Park with a much-needed win on Saturday.
