The race for World Cup qualification heats up in the South American region this week, with all eyes set to be on Brazil after an underwhelming start to the campaign. However, they could enhance their chances of reaching the 2026 World Cup with a victory on home soil against Ecuador on Friday evening.

Before Betting On Brazil vs Ecuador

South American World Cup qualification is already well underway, as nations will be looking to secure a place in the top six positions. All eyes will be on Brazil when they return to action on Friday, as they endured a nightmare start to the qualification campaign. However, things are beginning to look up for the five-time world champions after avoiding defeat in all internationals this year.

But, wins continue to be in short supply, and a response will be expected after being eliminated in the quarterfinal stage at the Copa America over the summer. Brazil have played out draws in four of their last five matches in regulation time, with their only victory coming against Paraguay. Meanwhile, the South American giants have suffered defeats in each of their last World Cup qualifiers.

Ecuador will have their sights set on a fifth appearance at the World Cup in 2026, and positives can be taken from their 2022 qualifying campaign after winning seven of their 18 matches in the opening round. The nation have made a strong start to the campaign this year after winning three of their six matches.

However, they currently sit fifth after being deducted three points for using false birth documents in the previous qualifying phase. Like Brazil, Ecuador could only make it to the quarterfinals at the Copa America over the summer before being dumped out by Argentina following a dramatic penalty shootout. But, it could be worth considering that the nation has lost just once in their last six matches.

Brazil have suffered just two defeats in their last 35 internationals against Ecuador, and the five-time world champions are unbeaten in their last 12 matches against their South American rivals since a defeat in 2004. For that reason, it looks hard to oppose Brazil from claiming a home victory on Friday.
