We saw today the closure of Bundesliga’s 30th round. In the most anticipated game of the day, Wolfsburg defeated Werder with 0-1 on the road, while two other games in Berlin and Augsburg ended with a draw.

Wolves Near EL, While Werder Slides Towards Relegation

This was a very important game for both teams; Werder to catch up with Fortuna and the place which leads to the playout, while on the other side, Wolfsburg needed points to bounce back to the spot, which leads to the Europa League.

In the end, the guests took all three points, winning 0-1. The only scorer in this match was Wout Weghorst, who netted eight minutes before the end, clinching a massive victory for the Wolves.

The game itself was solid, with an opening half in which both teams had good chances. Werder was more aggressive in the beginning, but the visitors responded later. Latter 45 minutes were calmer, but the River Islanders managed to snatch a win.

They are now sixth with 45 points two more than Hoffenheim and four than Hertha Berlin, and in a pretty good situation regarding the EL spot. Werder is second to the last, with three points fewer than Fortuna, and six than Mainz, who is the first team in the safe area.

Schalke’s Negative Run Continues

The last time Miners won one Bundesliga game was back on January 17th, and that was a clash against Borussia Monchengladbach. This one against Union in Berlin concluded with a draw, 1-1. When mentioning the hosts, they too are catastrophic, and their previous win at home was also back in January.

Robert Andric scored the opener in the 11th minute, bringing the lead to the home team, after one set piece.

Jonjoe Kenny leveled the score in some 15 minutes later, with a ferocious shot from a distance.

Apart from these two situations, the only one worth mentioning took place in the 42nd minute once hosts demanded a penalty after one controversial moment in Schalke’s box.

Union is now 14th with 32 points, while Miners sit 10th with 38. They should be safe when it comes to the relegation battle, which couldn’t be said for Union.

Exciting Finish in Augsburg

Augsburg and Koln played 1-1, in the last match of the round. It appeared that this match could end without goals, but the scorers woke up in the final five minutes.

Modeste struck first in the 86th minute, and Philipp Max leveled two minutes later.

The hosts were much better in this one, creating more opportunities, but in the end, they had to settle with just one point. Augsburg even had a penalty in the 27th minute yet, Koln’s goalkeeper Horn stopped it.

The Billy Goats have 35 points and are 12th, but didn’t win since the restart of the league, which is pretty problematic for them. As for Augsburg, they have 32 points, one spot behind today’s rival.

Bayern is topping the table with 71 points, seven more than Borussia Dortmund, and 11 than RB Leipzig who sits third.
