In the last game of Bundesliga’s 26th round, Bayer Leverkusen rolled over Werder in Bremen with 1-4.

Bayer on his Way Towards the Champions League

With these three points, the team from Leverkusen approached RB Leipzig to just one point. The Bulls are occupying the fourth position in the standings, the one which leads to the Champions League, but judging by the way they play, it is very possible to see the two sides rotating in the near future.

Bayer was more than convincing against the pale hosts who were inferior in the entire second half, and most of the first. The guests showed that they are on another level, and avenged for a draw in the first leg of this season, 2-2.

Havertz, with two goals, Weiser and Demirbay, netted for Bayer, while on the other side, Gebre Selassie added one goal for the hosts.

After opening 25 minutes in which we haven’t seen anything, three goals took place in the span of five minutes. It was Harvetz who opened the show in the 28th minute. Diaby had one solo effort on the side, which ended up with him making a perfect cross towards the far post. Bayer’s striker was there and routinely executed.

Gebre Selassie equalized just two minutes later, following a corner, after which he reacted the best in the crowd. Havertz responded and brought back the lead onto guests’ side, scoring his 9th goal of the season.

Werder tried to score until the halftime, but both shots its players attempted were wide, and the result stayed the same.

The second half started the same as the first, with a bit of boring performance from both sides. It was like that until the 61st minute, when Diaby assisted for the second time today, only this time to Wieser. Some 17 minutes later, Demirbay put an end on this contest, beating Werder’s goalkeeper for the fourth time and closing the game.

Werder is pretty close to the relegation, as they sit second to the last with 18 points, five fewer than Fortuna in the 16th position, the one which leads to the playout. The good thing for them is that they have one game in hand compared to the team from Dusseldorf.

Bayern and Borussia Leading the Way, Moench Behind

The first three teams in the standings routinely won their respective games in this round. Bayern was better than Union Berlin on the road with 0-2. Borussia Dortmund thrashed Schalke with 4-0, while Moenchengladbach rolled over Eintracht in Frankfurt with 1-3.

Even though Bayern has 58 points, Dortmund four fewer and Moench six, the title race in Germany is still heating up. There are eight more rounds to go, which is 24 points in total, and knowing the mentality of the German teams, be sure that the real battle is about to start now.

Red Bull, who was considered to be the most serious candidate to dethrone the Bavarians, slowed down, and it seems that they don’t have what it takes to capture the trophy. However, two Borussia’s jumped in to challenge the champions, and they are giving their best right now.
