Manchester United vs Liverpool Preview

United Need League Response

Manchester United fans will be nervous coming into this fixture against their arch-rivals, as they haven’t won in their last three league fixtures. The Red Devils have suffered two defeats during that run of games, with United taking just one point from their last two home games. The pressure was building on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of their European showdown with Atalanta on Wednesday, and that was telling in the first half of that game. United were far too open defensively once again in that game, as the Italian side raced into a 2-0 half-time lead. United conceded from yet another set piece, while the holding midfielders were non-existent as the attacking players did little to help when the Red Devils didn’t have the ball.

The players certainly showed in the second half that they were playing for the manager though, as United scored three times to claim a much-needed win in their Champions League campaign. Marcus Rashford scored his second goal since returning from injury, while Harry Maguire smashed home the equaliser. Cristiano Ronaldo was once again the man for the big occasion, scoring the winner inside the last ten. However, if United defend like they did against Atalanta, it could be a mauling at Old Trafford.

Reds Still Unbeaten

Before the start of the season, Liverpool’s title chances were massively overlooked, with many claiming that they didn’t have the depth to lay down a challenge. However, there is little doubt that should they keep their strongest eleven fit, then they could be in the mix come the end of the season. In Mohammed Salah, the Reds possibly boast the best player in world football at this moment.

The Egyptian scored once again in midweek, as Liverpool managed to edge past Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Liverpool have won three of their last five in the league, and maintained a one-point gap from the top of the league with an emphatic 5-0 success against Watford last weekend.

Head-to-Head

United haven’t had much success against the Reds in recent seasons, winning just once in their last ten meetings. Liverpool claimed a victory at Old Trafford last season, picking up a 4-2 win. However, victory this weekend would be the first time that they have won back-to-back games at the Theatre of Dreams since 2002.

Manchester United vs Liverpool Pick

It will be a very afternoon at Old Trafford for United. If they defend like they have done in recent games, then it could be an embarrassing match for United. However, they do have the attacking players to hurt the Reds, which means that our soccer bet will be going for a Liverpool win with both teams to score.
