Liverpool vs Arsenal Preview

Reds Hoping To Bounce Back

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that his Liverpool side can bounce back from their first defeat of the Premier League season. The loss was suffered in their final game before the international break, as West Ham United ran out 3-2 winners at the London Stadium. Liverpool come into this fixture having gone two without a win in the league, while they have picked up maximum points on just two occasions in their last five games.

The Reds will need to maintain their strong form, as they have a four-point gap between themselves and Chelsea at this stage. The winter period will be crucial for Liverpool’s title chances, but they will forced to play for long periods without Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane who both head to the Africa Cup of Nations in January. Winning games up until that point will be pivotal for their title chances this season.

Arsenal Gunning For More Wins

After the third round of fixtures in the Premier League, it was questioned whether Mikel Arteta was the right man to be leading the Gunners into the future. However, now, there seems to be no questions surrounding his ability as a manager. The Gunners have rose up the standings quickly, and could move into the top four this weekend for the first time this campaign with a victory against the Reds. Arsenal are also currently the in-form side in the Premier League, as they have won their last three, and are unbeaten in eight league fixtures.

The Gunners have also kept clean sheets in their last two fixtures against Leicester City and Watford. They were made to work hard in their win before the international break, as Emile Smith Rowe eventually broke the deadlock just before the hour mark. However, this will be their first big test since the opening weeks of the season.

Recent Meetings

The recent history of this fixture will not give the Gunners much faith, as they have lost their last five at Anfield. They have conceded an average of three goals throughout that run. Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool has coincided with a dominant record against the Gunners, as Arsenal have won just once in the eleven games that they have come up against the German.

Liverpool vs Arsenal Prediction

Arsenal are certainly heading in the right direction under Arteta, and the last eight games is evidence of that. However, they have an extremely poor record against the Reds, and Liverpool also have a formidable record at Anfield, as they are unbeaten in nine league games. For those reasons, the most logical bet will be on the home win, but it will be a much tighter affair than recent meetings between the two.
