Before Betting on Brewers vs Pirates Aug 2

Things don’t get any easier for the Pittsburgh Pirates, who just got swept over four games by the Phillies and now get a visit from the first place Milwaukee Brewers. Not only that, reigning Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes (8-4, 2.31 ERA) is up in the rotation coming off a dominant July.

As expected Pittsburgh is a huge underdog in the offshore odds for this Brewers vs Pirates Aug 2 matchup. The Pirates are 4-9 vs. Milwaukee this season and the Bucs are also just 2-12 over their last 14 overall. Even being idle on Monday doesn’t help Pittsburgh’s chances, as they are 5-17 in their last 22 following an off day.

The one thing that may have Milwaukee a bit off in this meeting is the fact that management traded MLB save leader Josh Hader to San Diego on Monday. It was more of a financial than a performance move and the Brewers did get a bona fide closer back in Taylor Rogers, but the team still may be a bit wary of the transaction as Hader has been one of the most dominant relievers in baseball the last 4-5 years.

Burnes being on the hill can alleviate a lot of concerns the team may have from the Hader trade, as he’s coming off a 2-0, 2.01 ERA July. Burnes is also 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in two starts vs. Pittsburgh this season.

The Pirates counter with Bryse Wilson (1-6, 6.31 ERA) but he shouldn’t expect a whole lot of run support on Tuesday night. Wilson has allowed 2 ER or less in three of his last four though.

Milwaukee is coming off a loss on Sunday but that has just put their mark to 7-2 since the All-Star break. The Brewers offense is producing in the second half and Burnes doesn’t need much so this one should go the visitors way rather easily.
