Belgium and Iran meet on Sunday the 21st in a key Group G clash. Belgium is favored to win by a good margin but needs to avoid a slow start against an Iran team that is capable of sneaking a win.

Belgium is considered very likely to advance to the elimination stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, due partly in thanks to the expanded 32-team bracket. They came up short in a stacked group in 2022, but will enter this game against Iran with high hopes. Belgium boasts a capable defense but could find themselves on the wrong side of an upset if they get off to a slow start.
Iran enters this game as the underdog, although not by an impossible margin. They are considered a popular upset pick to defeat Belgium and claim a spot in the elimination round. To do so they'll need to be at their very best, particularly on offense. Belgium will stone wall any timid attacks, so Iran will need to manufacture some early fast breaks to have a chance at winning this one.
Despite Iran's upset potential, they face an uphill battle in this game against a disciplined and experienced Belgium team. Though the offensive woes that plagued them four years ago are still a minor concern, they are a complete squad that should have a strong chance of making even the top-16 or top-8 as a currently top-10 ranked team. #20 Iran is sure to struggle here. Take Belgium to win this one, with a score close to 3-1.
