The Tempo look to reset following a disappointing showing against New York

Toronto had won two straight following back-to-back losses against the Lynx and Fire. The brief streak ended with a 97-82 setback against the New York Liberty on Wednesday.

Toronto held a three-point advantage after the first quarter. That quickly changed, though, as New York outscored the Tempo by a 53-38 margin across the middle two frames, turning a tight game into an easy double-digit win.

Marina Mabrey guided the offense with 17 points, four assists, and three rebounds. Brittney Sykes also scored 17 and collected five rebounds.

Chicago finally halted their losing streak thanks to Diggins' vintage performance

After a hot 3-1 start, the Sky hit a rough patch, dropping each of the next five games. Fortunately, the team ended a difficult stretch with a much-needed 85-80 victory against the Connecticut Sun on Friday night.

Things looked grim for Chicago early on, as it was held to 11 points in the first quarter. Thankfully, the home team overcame the sluggish start, paving the way for a furious finish.

Skylar Diggins' three-point play gave the Sky an 80-77 lead at the 1:20 mark in the fourth quarter. But Connecticut's Soniya Rivers answered with a 3-point basket, knotting the contest at 80. Chicago regained the lead, courtesy of a basket in the lane from Elizabeth Williams, and she later added a hook shot with 14.5 seconds remaining before Diggins secured the win from the free-throw line.

Diggins erupted for 24 points, including 18 in the first half. She also went 10-for-11 from the charity stripe. Azura Stevens contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Natasha Cloud added 13 points and five assists off the bench.

Tempo vs Sky WNBA Pick

Despite coming off a double-digit loss, Toronto enters this battle as a slight 1.5-point favorite. Here's a look at what you need to know for both teams ahead of this contest.

  • The Tempo are 3-2 (SU) in their previous five games.
  • Toronto is 3-2 ATS in its last five home outings.
  • The Sky are 1-4 (SU) in their previous five contests.
  • Chicago is 0-5 ATS in its last five matchups.

The Tempo took the lone meeting between these franchises back in late May, and the Sky have continued to struggle away from home, winning just three of their last 10 road games. With those trends in play, Toronto holds the clear edge in this Eastern Conference showdown.
