Crow Came From Nowhere and Has Been Solid Since Arriving
Coleman Crow has a 3.14 ERA and a 3.78 FIP. He made his MLB debut on April 17 after being called up from Nashville, the same pitcher Milwaukee received as a prospect in the Houser trade three years ago. He has turned into a competent major league starter in his first extended rotation opportunity.
The ERA-FIP gap is modest and runs in the right direction; the contact quality supports the results. Crow has been consistent across his appearances, not a one-game wonder, and the Brewers' bullpen (3.54 FIP) is there to clean things up once he exits.
Milwaukee has won seven of its last ten. JJ Wetherholt and Masyn Winn have been the offensive engines in this lineup all series. The Brewers at home finishing off a series sweep is not a complicated story.
Houser Is Pitching for the Team That Once Traded Him Away for Tonight's Opponent
Adrian Houser is 5.59 ERA and a 5.26 FIP. Both numbers are elevated, and they are moving in the same direction. No variance story here, no FIP suggesting hidden quality beneath a bad surface. He has been genuinely struggling. Houser spent six years as a Milwaukee Brewer before getting traded to the Mets in December 2023. The player going the other way in that deal was Coleman Crow.
Crow is tonight's opposing starter.
The irony of this rotation is remarkable enough, but the numbers matter more. Houser has been one of the least reliable starters the Giants have used this month, and San Francisco is 3-7 in their last ten, having already dropped three of the first three games to this Brewers team.
Giants vs Brewers Pick
Crow with a 3.14 ERA against Houser with a 5.59. SF dropped three straight in this series and are now 3-7 in their last ten. The Brewers are at home, in better form, with the better pitcher and the better bullpen.
Crow earned this start. Milwaukee.
