One of the games on Wednesday’s WNBA slate features the Connecticut Sun hosting the Phoenix Mercury. Can Connecticut get back into the win column in our Sun vs Mercury pick?

Struggling Connecticut Aims To End Three-Game Slide

After defeating the Atlanta Dream on Jun. 6, the Sun have dropped each of their last three contests. This includes a double-digit loss against the Indiana Fever on Tuesday.

Tina Charles scored a team-high 20 points, along with four rebounds and three assists. Olivia Nelson-Ododa had 14 points and eight boards, while Jaelyn added 13 points off the bench.

The key moment of this contest occurred in the third quarter. The Sun trailed 50-43 at the 8:15 mark. Unfortunately, they went nearly six minutes without a made field goal, allowing the Fever to extend their lead to 12 points. Caitlin Clark’s fourth 3-point basket of the night gave Indiana a 20-point advantage (84-64), which put the game out of reach for Connecticut.

The Mercury Look To Extend Their Win Streak To Three Games

Following a 89-77 loss to the Seattle Storm on Jun. 7, the Mercury enter this matchup amid a two-game win streak. Their latest triumph was a 76-70 victory against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday.

Satou Sabally led the way with 22 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Sami Whitcomb added 18 points off the bench and shot 4-for-8 from deep. Alyssa Thomas finished with a double-double that included 14 points and 13 assists. She also collected six rebounds.

Phoenix held a 60-54 advantage through three quarters before Las Vegas trimmed the deficit to two points early in the fourth. But thanks to Thomas and Whitcomb, the Mercury managed to hold on for a six-point victory.

Sun vs Mercury WNBA Pick

In addition to having the second-worst record in the league, Connecticut struggles at both ends of the court. This group is ranked last in points per game (71.3 PPG) and 12th in scoring defense.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Mercury have the fifth-worst offensive rating. However, they do have the fourth-lowest defensive rating in the association, allowing 99.3 points per 100 possessions.

Connecticut has taken each of the previous four matchups between these franchises. Additionally, the average margin of victory in those contests was 20 points per game.

With that in mind, this trend is likely to continue when these teams take the court on Wednesday night.
