  • South Africa came up short in their first game against Mexico, losing by a score of 2-0.
  • South Korea survived a thriller against Czechia, winning 2-1 to earn three early points.
  • These two squads last met in the 2010 World Cup, in a game that South Africa won 2-0.

South Africa and South Korea meet in a key Group A clash. Both teams are looking to notch a win to avoid falling into the danger zone. South Korea is the favorite to earn another victory in this game.

South Africa Seeks Bounce Back Win

South Africa was unable to topple Mexico in their first game, being shut out 2-0. They find themselves running dangerously close to the cusp of elimination, but have two winnable games remaining. In order to post a stronger result in this game against South Korea, South Africa will need to find an offensive spark that was missing in their first game. At just 25-years-old Lyle Foster will need to make his impact known.

South Korea Eyes Round of 32

South Korea earned an excellent victory over Czechia in their first game, earning a crucial 3 points. A single draw or win in their remaining two group stage games would likely send them ahead to the knockout stage of the tournament. South Korea's offense was at its best in their opener, and they'll look to continue that trend against a South Africa team that will have trouble keeping up if they manage to do so.

South Africa vs South Korea World Cup Pick

South Korea is favored in this matchup, albeit not by a huge margin. Their 1-0 record compared to 0-1 South Africa certainly gives them the advantage, but they also drew the less difficult matchup in the first game. This one may trend towards a draw with how many there have been already, but I see South Korea replicating their victory over Czechia with another 2-1 victory against South Africa.
