Poland vs. England Preview

  • Poland and England face in Warsaw on Wednesday.
  • The Three Lions have five points more than the Poles, and this is their chance to secure a ticket to Qatar.
  • England defeated Poland in their first match at Wembley, 2-1.

The situation in Group I can be decided following this game if Poland fails to win against England. In that case, the EURO runners-up will for sure take the top spot in the assembly even though there are still four more games afterward.

This is a do-or-die moment for the Poles because if they lose, Albania threatens to jump over them in the standings and take the second spot that leads to the playoffs.

Lewa and the Boys in Good Form

Even though they didn’t play well at the last EURO, finishing the competition already in the group stage, the Polish side awaits this match with high morale. They trashed Albania with 4-1, and after that, sorry San Marino on the road, 1-7.

As said, they have to chase a victory because of the current situation, and there aren’t really too many options for them before this contest. Even though England comes as a favorite, Poland will have to attack all three points.

They do score goals a lot but on the other side, concede as well. For example, teams like Albania and San Marino managed to break through their defense. Just one of their past 11 games didn’t see both teams netting, and two matches during the same period finished with under 2.5 goals.

Southgate to Close All Paths to His Goal

We don’t have a shred of doubt about Gareth Southgate’s tactics for this match. He will come out with ultra-defensive tactics, and wait for counter-attacks, as he always does in important matches. After all, this was his game plan throughout the entire EURO.

And may we say that England got away with it because of a huge amount of luck, but in the end, that didn’t pass against Italy.

The Three Lions were routine during this international break, defeating Hungary on the road and Andorra at home with the same result, 4-0. Overall, they didn’t lose too much energy in these two games.

Poland vs. England Head to Head Games

Poland didn’t defeat England since 1973. Seventeen matches had been played ever since, and the Poles can’t break the curse. The first match at Wembley ended 2-1 for the hosts, with Harry Maguire scoring the winning goal five minutes before the end.

Poland vs. England Prediction and Pick

For us, this is a low-scoring affair, with under 2.5 goals as the best possible choice. Despite the fact that the Polish team will attack all the time, England will shut down all the paths to its goals, and slow down the game as much as possible. Therefore, under 2.5 goals is our recommendation.

Pick: Under 2.5 goals -125
