The Thursday Night football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers saw two players carted off the field after receiving vicious hits.

Jamaal Williams Was Injured First

The Thursday Night football game between the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles saw two players leave the game on stretchers. It’s something that is always ugly to see and reminds us how dangerous this sport can be. The fact that it happened twice in this game was alarming.

In the first quarter, Jamaal Williams was stopped on a running play by two Eagles defenders. The Eagles players had stood him up and he really had nowhere to go but Derek Barnett came in and tried to finish off the play. What resulted was defenseless Williams being hit by Barnett who was running at him full speed. You can see that the blow knocks Williams unconscious immediately.

Barnett Was Not Ejected

Barnett was called for a fifteen-yard unnecessary roughness penalty on the play. He was not ejected although many pundits commented afterwards that he probably should have been. It was not a malicious play and Barnett apologized to Williams before he was carted off.

Williams did manage to give a thumbs up to the crowd as he left the field. The Packers did announce last night that Williams had movement in all of his extremities. That type of play is very scary to witness and reminds us of the risks these players are taking on a weekly basis. That was not the last vicious hit unfortunately for anyone watching this Thursday night game.

Avonte Maddox Hit by Teammate

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Avonte Maddox received a vicious hit that knocked him out of this game. He was also taken off on a stretcher and brought to the hospital like Jamaal Adams. There was one important difference between the two plays however. Avonte Maddox was taken out by a teammate. New Eagles safety Andrew Sendejo was looking to deliver a big hit but unfortunately, he took out one of his own guys. The hit from Sendejo on Maddox was right to the head and he was out instantly.

It was another scary moment in an otherwise exciting game between these NFC rivals. These two teams figure to be in the playoff hunt and this game lived up to expectations. These two hits were an extremely sour note but it’s good to know that Maddox has movement in all of his extremities. He was actually able to fly home with his teammates.

While was being attended to on the field, his teammates said that he was responsive which helped ease their fears.

Both Teams Played Well

Coming into the game there were questions marks about this Eagles team. They provided a big time answer by going into Lambeau Field and beating a 3-0 Packers team. Getting Desean Jackson back from injury will provide this team with another boost. As long as the Cowboys are undefeated the Eagles can’t afford anymore losses.

Meanwhile the Packers much improved defense looked very vulnerable against the run. The Eagles dominated the line of scrimmage on offense. To make matters worse, the Packers lost Devontae Adams to a foot injury.
