Before Betting on Rockies vs Cardinals Aug 16

It’s a battle of left-handers when Kyle Freeland (7-8, 4.84) and the Colorado Rockies take on Jose Quintana (3-5, 3.50 ERA) and the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. This is a rematch of last Wednesday’s pitching duel, one that St. Louis was able to win 9-5, although that was in Coors Field so there’s likely to be fewer runs scored in this Rockies vs Cardinals matchup.

As expected the Redbirds are big favorites at home in Tuesday’s series opener. St. Louis did drop two of three in their trip to Denver last week, but bounced back to win a weekend series over the Brewers to take a two game lead in the NL Central. Colorado is once again one of the worst road teams in MLB, posting an 18-36 record away from Coors Field.

Freeland gave up 6ER over just 4.1 IP last week against St. Louis, but that was at Coors Field where he has a 6.00 ERA compared to 3.53 on the road. The Rockies had won four Freeland starts in a row prior to last Wednesday’s outing so they have some value as huge underdogs in Tuesday’s rematch.

Quintana picked up the win last week in Denver after throwing 6.0 IP of just 2ER baseball. Quintana has found a resurgence in allowing a total of just 3ER in his last 4 starts, and overall the Cardinals have won 6 of his last 8 outings.

The only way to go is Cardinals run line. The Rockies are atrocious on the road, have lost 13 of 16 following an off day, St. Louis is 13-3 their last 16 at home, and Quintana has been on fire – even at Coors Field.
