Russell Martin will be aware of the task ahead of him at Southampton following a poor start to the new season. The Saints come into this home match after losing each of their opening three matches in the Premier League, and they have scored just once across those losses. Meanwhile, Southampton will need to address defensive issues after allowing five goals in their league outings so far in 2024-25.
Their only goal was a late consolation in a 3-1 loss at Brentford in the previous round. The Saints look void of quality in the final third of the field, as they failed to register a goal in five shots on target at the Bees, and they enjoyed 64% of the possession. Even at this early stage, it appears hard to see Southampton surviving the drop this term.
