Liverpool vs Chelsea Preview

Blues Hoping To Show Title Credentials

Chelsea are the team an awful lot of people are getting excited about this season, as many believe that they have built a team that is more the capable of winning the Premier League title this season. They could yet add to their squad before the transfer deadline, with reports indicating that they could sign Saul from Atletico Madrid. Romelu Lukaku is the biggest signing that they have made to this point, as the club brought back their former striker from Inter Milan.

Lukaku immediately hit the ground running on his return as he scored in Chelsea’s dominant 2-0 win against Arsenal last weekend. He made life very difficult for the opposing defenders throughout that fixture, as he kept pushing them back towards their own goal. Reece James scored the other goal in the comfortable win for the Blues. However, it is a slightly different task this weekend, as Lukaku will be up against Virgil van Djik, which could be the key battle to determine where the points end up.

Liverpool Still Perfect

Not many people have spoken at length about Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season. That despite the fact that they won the league title for the first time in 30 years in the 2019-20 season. Last season’s chances were hampered with the absence of van Djik, but he is back this term, and looking very comfortable at the heart of the Reds defence.

The fitness of their central defender will be key to their chances, while the performances of the front three will also be essential. Liverpool continued their perfect start to the new season last weekend, as they won 2-0 at home against Burnley. Two of their front three were on target in that success. Diogo Jota opened the scoring after 20 minutes. Sadio Mane already looks in better form than last year, as he scored the second with just over 20 minutes of the game remaining.

Recent Meetings

Liverpool have a very good recent record against Chelsea, as they have been beaten on just two occasions in the last 13 league meetings. Five of those games have ended in wins for the Reds, while five have been draws. However, Chelsea did win the last meeting between the clubs back in March.

Liverpool vs Chelsea Pick

This will be a big game for both sides, but it will be very interesting to see how Chelsea approach this game. They are many people’s picks to win the league this season, and they will be looking to put down a marker for the season ahead. We expect a tense battle, but ultimately, Chelsea to show why they are fancied for the title by picking up a narrow victory.
