Chelsea vs Manchester City Preview

Blues Looking To Continue Excellent Start

Every expert around the world seems to have tipped up Chelsea to win the Premier League this season, and it isn’t hard to see why given the start to the season that they have made. The Blues have been excellent to this point, and have dropped just two points. Thomas Tuchel’s side are the early leaders in the league standings, and are currently three points ahead of City. However, defeat this weekend could give their title chances a blow, as it would allow Manchester United and Liverpool to leap above the Blues.

Chelsea have shown no sign of weakness in the early weeks, and picked up a fourth win of the campaign against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. Central defenders Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva both scored in that win, while N’Golo Kante also came off the bench to find the net. This will be a much harder assignment than last weekend though.

City Looking To Bounce Back

Over recent weeks, Pep Guardiola has been picking fights with his own fans, as he lamented the home support that City got in their recent Champions League win over RB Leipzig. He pleaded for more fans to turn up for their league outing against Southampton, which they did. However, Guardiola was left with egg on his face, as his side couldn’t get past the well-drilled Saints backline. In fact, they were fortunate not to have lost the game, as the referee overturned a penalty decision given against Kyle Walker after a VAR check.

City are still just three points behind the three sides on 13 points, which means that they are by no means outsiders to win the league title. However, the feeling at the club isn’t the same as it was last term, as the dust continues to settle on City’s failed transfer approach to bring in Harry Kane.

Recent Meetings

Chelsea and City have become huge rivals over the past couple of years, but the Blues have won the last three games that they have played against Guardiola’s side. All wins have come in different competitions, with the most recent of those coming in the Champions League final. However, City have won their last three games at Stamford Bridge. A draw could be the most unlikely result, as the points haven’t been shared in this fixture in 12 meetings.

Chelsea vs Manchester City Prediction

This will be Chelsea’s opportunity to put a marker down for their title chances this season. It will undeniably be a close game, but a Romelu Lukaku goal in a win for the Blues looks to be a decent bet.
