It isn’t truly the festive period until the halls of the illustrious Alexandra Palace are alive with the fancy-dressed and alcohol-fuelled singing of darts fans to mark the start of the PDC Darts World Champions.
The season-defining darts event gets underway in London on December 15, and will run throughout the Christmas period, before the world champion is crowned on January 3, 2025.
As always, it will be a massive betting event across the world, with DAZN streaming every session of the World Championship in the U.S.
But, which player could be best placed to throw down a challenge to reigning champion Luke Humphries?

Teenage Sensation Luke Littler to go One Better?
The 2024 edition of the World Championships was all about the emergence of teenage sensation Luke Littler. The 17-year-old made international headlines by becoming the youngest player to reach the final of the event.
His history-making year would continue in 2024, becoming the youngest to hit two televised nine-darters, and winning the Bahrain Darts Masters.
A major breakthrough came in the summer when winning the Premier League for the first time, before winning a second PDC premier event in the form of the World Series Finals.
However, unlike last year, increased attention will be on the teenager and the pressure will be on to make history in London.
Consistent Luke Humphries Tops the Betting
With all the attention Littler received at the World Championships, it was easy to overlook the fact that Humphries was a deserving first-time champion at Ally Pally.
The 29-year-old was the most consistent player throughout the previous calendar year, winning the World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts, and the Players Championship.
His consistency has continued this year since winning the World Championship, reaching the final of the UK Open before winning the World Cup of Darts and the World Matchplay in July.
Humphries came up short in the Premier League final against Littler, but their rivalry looks set to be one of the narratives to follow at the World Championship.
Michael Van Gerwen and Michael Smith on Comeback Trail
Losing finalists have a reliable record in the World Championships, with Smith losing the 2019 and 2022 finals before finally getting his moment in the sun in 2023.
Michael van Gerwen has been no stranger to success at the World Championships with three victories, but the Dutchman has also lost in the final on the same number of occasions.
Both players have excellent experience of reaching the showpiece match, with only the 2024 and 2021 finals since 2018 featuring neither.
Smith could be dangerous to overlook after bouncing back to form with a runner-up finish in the World Series Finals, while van Gerwen’s record at Ally Pally could make him a very interesting outsider at the prices available.
PDC World Darts Championship 2025 Prediction
A sensational month-long event looks set for the end of the year, and at this stage there is little to separate the top stars in the betting.
However, we always look for a value angle at the World Championships, as shocks are incredibly common at Ally Pally.
Therefore, Stephen Bunting could be an interesting play. The fan favorite reached the semi-final stage in 2014 and was in excellent form before falling in the fourth round last year. But, his excellent form has continued, reaching a first PDC major final at the Masters.
Gian van Veen could also be a player sneaking under the radar. The 22-year-old Dutchman has achieved career-best showings at five premier events this season, and he will be a decent contender to exceed his previous best appearance of the last 96 stage in 2025.
