For the past two decades New England would use their December games to get ready for what they hope would be a lengthy postseason run, but in 2023 the Patriots (2-10) are preparing for an offseason of big changes and a potential #1 draft pick as they head into week 14. New England’s struggles have mainly been on offense, something the Steelers definitely can relate to. Pittsburgh (7-5) keeps finding a way to win though, something they’ll hope to continue on Thursday night.

Before Betting on Patriots vs Steelers

It would benefit the Patriots to lose this game, as at 2-10 they currently hold what would be the #2 pick in a very QB heavy draft. New England definitely needs to make a move at the quarterback position, as it’s become evident that Mac Jones (10 TD, 12 INTs) nor Bailey Zappe (50% completion rate) are the answer there.

New England has lost five games in a row, a trend that Pittsburgh hopes continues as the Steelers are right in the thick of things in the AFC wild card race as the current #5 seed. Mike Tomlin’s crew is coming off a stunning 24-10 home loss to Arizona as -6 point favorites so they are reeling a bit.

What’s been lost in the Patriots’ horrible season is that their defense is still pretty solid – it’s why the O/U for Thursday night’s game is just 30 points. The New England offense has scored just 30 points in the last four games combined and they’re 0-4 over that span, but the defense has allowed 20, 10, 10, and 6 points in those contests.

Patriots vs Steelers Prediction & Pick

The Steelers offense hasn’t been anything to write home about – unless you’re writing home to say they’ve been hard to watch. Pittsburgh does benefit from being home for consecutive games on the short week, but 6 points is too many for this team to be giving.

Pick: Patriots +6
