The Rams go on the road Sunday for their wild card matchup with the Lions but it might as well be a home game for L.A. QB Matthew Stafford who spent 12 years in Detroit. This is also a revenge game of sorts for Detroit QB Jared Goff, who was picked #1 by the Rams but shipped to Detroit when Los Angeles decided he wasn’t the player that could win them a Super Bowl – which they were right on by the way, taking the championship in 2022 behind Stafford.

Before Betting on L.A. Rams vs Detroit Lions

Stafford put up some huge numbers in Detroit, but Goff has done two things he never did – lead the Lions to the NFC North crown and secure the first home playoff game for the city in 30 years. Goff threw for 4,575 yards with 30 TDs to 12 INTs so he’s far more than a game manager.

Detroit had the #27 pass defense in the NFL this season, so Sunday could be a big day for the Rams’ record setting WR duo of Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. The rookie Nacua had 105 catches for 1,486 yards this season and Kupp had two 100+ receiving yard games over his final four once he finally got healthy and into playing shape.

The Rams defense wasn’t as dominant as it had been in recent seasons, but they do just enough in holding opponents to 19.9 ppg. That’s usually enough of a margin for this offense, and the formula has worked as Los Angeles won 7 of their last 8, their lone loss coming in OT at Baltimore – the #1 seed in the AFC.

2024 Wild Card Rams vs Detroit Prediction & Pick

Detroit fans have waited a long time for a home playoff game, but you wonder if that puts a bit too much pressure into the atmosphere. If the Lions can get an early lead then Ford Field will be rocking – but that’s also a big IF the way the Rams have played in the second half of the season. Stafford has been here before – many, many times and Los Angeles looks poised for a road upset.

Pick: Rams +3
