At just past the midpoint of the NFL season, teams that are struggling or outright out of contention begin to make decisions for the future. That includes firing people. Such is the case in New Orleans where the Saints fired Dennis Allen.

Betting Markets Have Yet To Adjust Odds After the Firing

When a team in any sport terminates its field boss, it can impact team performance. Those considering their options should make an assessment quickly in the aftermath.

For teams that are struggling because they hate the manager or head coach, they might play better in their next game. For those who are simply bad and outmanned, the change is irrelevant to their talent level.

The odds for the Saints’ next game hosting the Falcons have not yet been adjusted for those variables.

Saints Fired Dennis Allen for Issues Beyond His Record

Replacing a star head coach is not an easy gig. Nor is replacing the star head coach — in this case Sean Payton — and future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees.

Allen dealt with both in quick succession.

Brees was injured and out in 2021 before retiring. After that season, Payton departed and had a brief tenure as a broadcaster before taking over the Broncos.

Did Allen decide to trade for Derek Carr from the Raiders? Or was it GM Mickey Loomis?

Carr has been injured and ineffective. The team isn’t good enough to compete.

Allen’s record as a head coach with the Raiders and Saints is now 26-53. There’s no dressing that up. Still, the team’s foundation is aging with star running back Alvin Kamara nearly 30 and Carr age 33.

Trades Are Likely with the Deadline Set for Nov. 5

Dismissing Allen is likely the first in a series of moves New Orleans will make. Notably, they are receiving calls on star cornerback Marshon Lattimore. Kansas City is reportedly pursuing him to boost the roster for a third straight Super Bowl run.

Other players who could be traded include backup QB/utilityman Taysom Hill.

This is imperative because it will dramatically alter their roster for the Week 10 game against the first-place Falcons.

Coaching candidates will invite speculation with the accompanying odds as to who will get the job for a team that needs significant changes if not an outright rebuild. It is not a job Bill Belichick will want.
